Early Start ECD Centre- Korr

Early Start ECD Centre- Korr

Early Start Africa runs an early learning centre in Rongumo village of Korr, Marsabit County, serving about 130 children. It is more than just a school, it is a hub for learning, nourishment, and hope.

Our mission is to expand access to early childhood education, nurture the whole child, strengthen parental involvement, and break cycles of poverty in this remote community. By laying strong foundations, we prepare children for lifelong success.

Education and Learning

We embrace play-based learning, where children explore, imagine, and discover. They learn to read, write, count, and communicate while enjoying the process.

Nutritious meals are part of daily learning, ensuring children remain healthy and focused, especially in a region where food insecurity is common.

Parent Engagement

Parents in Korr are increasingly embracing education as a shared responsibility. Many walk long distances to attend meetings, celebrate milestones, and support learning at home.

Our parental engagement initiatives include:

We hold regular meetings to keep parents informed of their child's progress, achievements, and areas for improvement. This ensures that parents are active participants in their child's learning journey.

We host various events such as cultural days, sports activities, and workshops to involve both parents and the community. These events foster a sense of belonging and help children feel supported both at school and at home.

Stories of Change

Arihto Hallo

Arihto Hallo’s New Journey

Six-year-old Arihto Hallo, now in Pre Primary 2, once spent her mornings helping her mother fetch water and care for her younger siblings. Today, she joyfully spends them drawing shapes and sounding out words at the Early Start Africa ECD Center – Korr.

Her father, Amalo Hallo, admits he once questioned the value of school. “I thought education would not change much for us,” he says. “But when I see Arihto reading and teaching her brothers letters, I know her future will be brighter.”

Laban Lechu’s New Dawn

Five-year-old Laban Lechu, a Pre Primary 1 learner, lost both his parents at a young age. Now under the care of his guardian, Khobocha Eysimgudere, Laban starts each day at the Early Start Africa ECD Center – Korr instead of wandering the village without direction.

Khobocha shares, “Life has not been easy for Laban, but school has given him joy and hope. When I see him singing, counting, and playing with other children, I know he has a chance for a better future.”
